Philosophy 1

We meet from 10.30-12.30 on the first Tuesday of each month. The group remains very successful but numbers are limited to the max of 12, because of space. There is no fee.
No previous knowledge of philosophers or their philosophies is necessary but an open mind is essential, and the willingness to participate in discussions and to lead a session on a self-chosen theme at least once a year.
The idea is to discus general themes of interest to the participants eg: justice, the visual media, power, governments, humanism: etc as well as the introduction to philosophers and their theories.

Philosophy 2

This new group meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10 am, at members homes, starting on Tuesday 9th May 2023, and is hosted, where possible, by each of the members in turn.
The meetings are normally led by the host, who also provides light refreshments, in their home and last about two hours. As this new group is still forming (learning!), it was decided that it would initially follow a structured approach to Philosophy based around a popular text introducing the subject. Although structured, the meetings are not tutorial and, consequently, short open discussions often ensue!
As with the original group, there is a limitation on numbers and Philosophy 2 is unfortunately now fully subscribed. For further information and if you wish to be put on the waiting list please contact the coordinator.
