New Beginners Bridge Group

Whenever I go to a U3A meeting, I am always asked if I know of a Beginners Bridge class. Well, I’m afraid I don’t but I have decided to start one along with my friend Jane Guy with whom I began learning the game nearly 4 years ago.

The class will be aimed at people who are absolute beginners and will follow the English Bridge Union, ACOL rules and conventions as Jane and I have been taught.

We are not expert bridge players by any means, but in the spirit of U3A we are prepared to impart our knowledge to help people begin to learn the game of bridge. I say begin to learn, as people who have been playing the game for 20 years or more say they are still learning – this is what makes it such an interesting and popular game. Also, Jane and I can only take you so far as we are not bridge teachers.

My hope and intention is that when people in the Beginners’ group have learned the basics of bridge and feel confident, they will move up to the Improvers group.

The first term will start on 10th January 2018 and run until Easter on Wednesday afternoons 4.15pm – 5.45pm @ Fairycroft House, Saffron Walden. Cost will depend on numbers so cannot be determined until the term starts and numbers are known, but should be around £20 / £25 per person for the 12 week term assuming 8 to 12 people.
