The decision has been made to postpone our first national U3A Day from 3 June 2020 to 1 October 2020 which is International Day of Older Persons. (June 3rd just falls within the estimated 12 weeks of advised social exclusion).
U3A’s across the country are being invited to mark the day by celebrating and showcasing what happens in their U3A, and hope that this will become an annual event.
This is an opportunity to showcase some of the amazing things we do, and also to challenge negative perceptions of older adults, bringing together all older members in our community showing how we are still dedicated to learning, staying active and having fun.
Saffron Walden U3A have hired Jubilee Gardens and the Bandstand for the day and we are planning a day of skills demonstrations, music and fun.
We will be contacting some groups to ask if they would like to demonstrate or perform on the Bandstand, and others can join in by being in the Gardens and engaging in their particular activity; eg the Mah Jong group could bring a table and play in the gardens.
The aim of this event is to have fun and showcase what U3A is about, not particularly to get new members (although we might generate some interest, which is always good)
The Garden Rooms will be open for teas, and you could bring a picnic and make a day of it!
Most of all, please come along and support the event.
If you have any ideas for this day please contact Mary Curtis (email@example.com) or Jim Dwyer (firstname.lastname@example.org)
